Getting your heart broken has got to be one of life’s biggest sorrows.  To move on, you need to find ways to mend your heartbreak.  No one says that it’s easy to mend a broken heart, but it’s something you must do so you can enjoy life again.

Healing a Broken Heart – Step 1

First, the relationship is over. Accept the fact. There’s no use rolling in pain.  Get over it! The relationship has ended.  You’ve got a long life in front of you and you must heal your heart to proceed.  This isn’t a time to be longing for the old relationship, it will only make you even more unhappy.  It’s over. Forget it.

Healing a Broken Heart – Step 2

Spend some time alone, don’t go looking for someone to fill the new emptiness.  So-called rebound relationships don’t work, so don’t try.  It’s not good for yourself or your new boyfriend if he’s just a so-called rebound boyfriend.  Feelings for your ex makes for a very unfair relationship.  You need to have some time alone to reflect.  You wouldn’t walk on a broken leg; so why try a new relationship with a broken heart?  Wait! The first available guy to come along won’t be the right one.

Healing a Broken Heart – Step 3

The important third step is to allow yourself some time for grieving.  Since you’re full of emotions, you need to let them melt away.  Start writing in a diary, or exercising, anything productive to ease your stress.  Entrust a friend or a family member with confidences regarding your broken heart.  A trusted friend, or even a therapist, can help you talk through this difficult time.  Not recognizing your hurt feeling will only prolong your sadness.

Healing a Broken Heart – Step 4

The fourth step is to focus on self-confidence and self-improvement.  As in any relationship, you probably spent more time on the other person rather than yourself.  For now, make yourself the most important focus of your life.  Be happy with yourself, find ways to start improving yourself.  Find a new hobby or way of expression, start jogging or join the gym.  Take the focus off your breakup and turn it instead to a new and better you.  Don’t let the pain of the break up get to you, you deserve to feel good about yourself and the world in general.  Make yourself roll over the bad feelings of your break up.  Heal your broken heart by keeping your mind and your body busy and glowing.

Healing a Broken Heart – Step 5

The fifth step involves being positive and ready to tackle the future.  It’s time to ease on down life’s road.  What about your ex? Do you think he’s miserable?  He’s probably doing just fine, use that as a reinforcement to move happily along.  Thinking about “could have’s” and “should have’s” is a useless exercise after breaking up.  An important thing to do is to become more self-confident and learn how to trust others again.

So, there you have it, the five steps to heal your broken heart.  Learning how to better live again and better love again is the positive side of any break up.  You can, you must, heal your broken heart so you will be better at life and at loving.
